UP TO THE FUTURE – A UNIVERSITY FOR SOCIETY

Several younger members of each faculty were invited to represent the next generation of emerging scholars in a new issue, aiming to highlight the “University of the Future.” You can read this copy of the journal here. (It’s in Czech.) Vendula Lužná writes: “The university is no longer just about teaching and research behind the closed doors of brick buildings. Its students, teachers, researchers, in short, everyone who has Palacký University in their DNA, are increasingly entering the public sphere and, in times of instability and crisis, helping society navigate the world around us – comprehensibly, confidently, and transparently. We show that the whole of society can benefit from the work of our university community.”

WOMEN IN SCIENCE AT PALACKY UNIVERSITY

Bringing together different fields at the Fortress of Knowledge, we held an amicable debate on the current state of women in science, specifically highlighting the experiences of foreign workers, on 10 February 2026. A website with short profiles of each of us was created at https://womeninscience.upol.cz/ . I got to make a minizine, “Pocket Full of Mentors” with some inspirational quotes from each of the ladies, which you can see images from at the top of the webpage.

UPOL IN THE SPOTLIGHT

“All science is beautiful and interesting, only some topics require ingenuity and work to make their beauty appreciated by the general public. You all do this work and for that I give you a big compliment and thanks,” were the opening words of moderator Daniel Kunz at the “UP in the Spotlight” event, during which the university thanked its media faces on 21 February, 2025. Under the title UP in the Spotlight, the premiere event was held at the Fortress of Knowledge to thank scientists for their communication of science to the public.
